I was of course nervous at first but the staff are amazing. It’s a nice place. The experience was certainly intense and profound. Not something you want to do again 😅 But the results are amazing
Poison ivy is natural but that does not mean we should roll it up into joints and smoke it! Lol!
While I agree that as a general principle natural is preferable to synthetic in most areas of life, I’ve also seen the insistence on ‘only natural’ substances or products become a self-righteous ideology. I think we have enough Puritanism already!
Have you heard the recent 10 minute audio (below) of Sam Harris describing how psychedelics are almost indispensable for many people to get into meditation. I find Harris to be excellent on the topic of mindfulness meditation and on psychedelics. He is a major, highly influential advocate. Interesting to hear one of the worlds leading atheist talk about the beatific vision.
Thanks so much, George! Yes, totally agree. There's a lot of ideology (and with that ego) involved. I haven't read or listened to anything from Sam Harris in a while, I need to dive into his work more. Every other person that approaches me as a newbie to psychedelics has come to it through Harris so whatever he's doing, he seems to be doing it very well :-)
Julia, Harris hadn’t taken psychedelics in many years but they had a profound impact on him when he was young. Then around the time Michael Pollan’s book, How to Change Your Mind, came out, (Sam interviewed Pollan on Sam’s podcast) he started taking psychedelics again and is enthusiastic.
He has a huge following among intellectuals and others in the US and worldwide. Harris describes his first psychedelic experience after many years on YouTube.
I assume you know about the Netflix documentary on Pollan’s book which starts July 12. It should be very good.
Sam Harris is brilliant and I enjoy his work on mindfulness meditation, Buddhism, psychology, and atheism/religion, but not so much some of his political views.
The psychedelic movement is rapidly gaining momentum!! Keep up the great work!
Yes, I read Waking up (quite a while ago) and he does talk a little bit about the topic in there. Super excited about the Netflix documentary! Yes, it feels like everything is accelerating quite a bit. Can't wait to see the impact of all of this.
Excellent and have personally did Ibogaine in Cozumel Mexico with Mindscape retreat. Completely changed my life! https://www.mindscaperetreat.com/ibogaine-treatment-clinic
Amazing, never heard of Cozumel! How was your experience there?

Love this one, Julia! So needed ... and incredibly informative in a beautiful way. Love your writing :)
Thank you angel! Glad you like it ♡
Another great article, Julia!
